English For Business Communication Course Outline


Introduction

This is a 1-day intensive program specially formulated for participants who require to communicate with confidence. 

Course Objective

In today’s corporate environment, communicating in English is absolutely necessary and unavoidable. It is even so if you are sales executive. If your companies are looking to increase the revenue, selling your product only to locals will not be enough. You must think ahead and try to promote your product or services outside the country. Hence, as English is the most common language used worldwide, your staff must be able to communicate effectively in English. Unfortunately, many avoid speaking and writing in English because they lack confidence and are trapped in a negative reinforcing cycle. This adversely impacts the ministry’s public image and customer satisfaction. 

The objective of this programme is to break the negative reinforcing cycle and start a positive reinforcing cycle by encouraging participants to speak and write in English regardless of grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes. At the end of the programme, they will be able to speak and write in English with more confidence and style.

Course Methodology

This program employs adult learning techniques which include active learning strategies to facilitate understanding and retention. Participants will spend 80% of the time in individual or group activities which allow them to learn, develop and practice English language skills. The trainer will draw from the participants’ experiences to simulate real life situations and case studies to enhance the training. A simple workbook is used to facilitate the program.

Course Syllabus

Module 1
Overcoming Your Fear in English Language

Understanding the source of fear, commitment and promise to speak English regardless of mistakes
Module 2
Stand Up and Speak

Taking the first step, making a self-introduction, common words and phrases used when making an introduction, focus on the correct use of articles and prepositions for location and time

Module 3
Interacting with Customers

Common words and phrases to use in conversation with customersgreetings, salutations, courtesy, giving directions, giving assistance, dealing with irate customers, empathizing with customers, giving assurances to customers, updating customers and other situations customized to actual working environment

Module 5
Intermediate Writing Skills 
  • Understanding different types of writing
  • Selecting the right formality
  • Avoiding contractions
  • Using active voice in sentence construction
  • Selecting business-related vocabulary
  • Writing etiquette relating to correct salutations, polite phrases and requests
